KIUG 2025: Chandigarh dominates canoe and kayaking to top standings; four more records shattered in athletics

Jaipur – On Wednesday, Chandigarh University dominated the canoe and kayaking events at Day 10 of the Khelo India University Games Rajasthan 2025, taking nine of the ten available golds and securing the top spot on the medal table. The same university also captured a team gold in men’s table tennis, pushing Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU) just behind with a haul of 33 golds, 13 silvers and nine bronzes.
In athletics, four meet records fell at the Sawai Man Singh Stadium in Jaipur, marking the second straight day of record‑breaking performances.
The fifth edition of KIUG 2025 runs across seven Rajasthani cities, hosting 4,448 athletes from 222 universities who compete in 23 medal‐bearing sports. The Games are conducted under the aegis of the Sports Authority of India (SAI) in partnership with the Rajasthan State Sports Council and are hosted by Poornima University.
Guru Kashi University’s Tongbram Roshan Singh won the men’s 500 m canoe single, preventing Chandigarh University from sweeping the event in Udaipur.
In Jaipur, most of the action fell on the athletics track, delivering an exciting day of competition. Panjab University’s men’s 4×400 m team, Mahatma Gandhi University’s Shintomon CB (men’s 110 m hurdles), Guru Kashi University’s Sanya Yadav (women’s discus throw) and Mahatma Gandhi University’s Aleena T Saji (women’s triple jump) all broke meet records on Wednesday, bringing the total number of records shattered in this edition of the Games to nine.
The poised men’s 4×400 m relay final kept spectators on edge. Mumbai University headed the race until the final 100 m, where Panjab University’s Lokesh Singh Gurjar overtook Yash Joshi to claim gold with a time of 3:12.40 s. Mumbai University finished in 3:12.73 s, also a new meet record, beating the previous best of 3:13.44 s set by Mangalore University.
Earlier, Shintomon CB led the men’s 110 m hurdles from start to finish, edging out former KIUG record holder Vikas Khodke and All‑India University record holder Rahil Sakeer VP of the University of Calicut. Khodke, who had the previous KIUG record of 14.40 s, finished with silver in a photo finish, with Rahil Sakeer also clocking 14.52 s.
In field events, Sanya Yadav improved the KIUG women’s discus record to 50.73 m on her second attempt, surpassing Shalini Chaudhary of Barkatullah University’s previous mark of 50.60 m. The women’s triple‑jump podium also saw new records: Aleena leaped 13.09 m in her second attempt, while Arshdeep Kaur of Panjab University reached 12.80 m in her fourth try. The earlier best of 12.78 m was held by Aishwarya B of Mangalore University.
At the Jagatpura shooting range, Olympic bronze‑medalist Sarabjot Singh teamed with Palak to win gold in the 10 m air pistol mixed team event, beating Mukesh Nelavalli and Dwaram Pranavi of KLEF University 17‑15; Guru Nanak Dev University also took bronze.
In women’s football, Chaudhary Bansi Lal University of Bhiwani triumphed over Guru Nanak Dev University 2‑0 in the final, with goals from Pooja (10th minute) and Nancy (83rd minute). Nancy had already scored the decisive goal in the semi‑final against Guru Jambheshwar University, Hisar.
Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) secured its first women’s hockey gold, defeating ITM University of Gwalior 1‑0 in the final. Aliva Jate scored the winner in the 34th minute. In the men’s hockey final, Gurukul Kangri Vishwavidyalaya beat Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapith 5‑1.
In Jodhpur, Chitkara University’s women’s table tennis team beat Adamas University 3‑0, but the men’s team fell 2‑3 to Chandigarh University after taking a 2‑0 lead in the finals.
The Fit India Zone at Sawai Man Singh Stadium welcomed visitors from opening day with a blend of fitness activities, including a high‑energy challenge zone with prizes, a dedicated cycling area, and comprehensive physical and mental fitness assessments run by Abhinav Bindra Target Performance.
Later on Wednesday, Dr. Neeraj K Pawan, Secretary of Youth Affairs & Sports for Rajasthan, addressed a press conference at the Fit India Zone. He announced the launch of the Khelo Rajasthan initiative, aligned with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for a healthier nation. He also revealed plans to convert the SMS Stadium into a no‑vehicle zone, restricting activity to bicycles for internal transport.
