Punjab DGP reviews security arrangements ahead of Guru Tegh Bahadur’s martyrdom anniversary

Anandpur Sahib, Punjab – Punjab’s Director General of Police, Gaurav Yadav, arrived in Anandpur Sahib on Tuesday to check the plans that will keep the 350 th anniversary of Guru Tegh Bahadur’s martyrdom safe and smooth. The nine‑tenth Sikh Guru’s death anniversary, set for November 23‑25, is drawing hundreds of thousands of worshippers from around the world.

During his visit, Yadav met with Special DGPs Arpit Shukla (Law and Order) and Praveen Sinha (Intelligence). He reminded all officers that professional, dedicated service is essential—especially during such a high‑profile celebration. He said the focus would be on protecting the devotees, ensuring orderly movement, and making their experience comfortable.

Police have mobilised more than 8,000 officers, supervised by senior commanders, to guard key sites and manage the crowds. The force is backed by advanced technology: a state‑of‑the‑art control room will monitor the city, with automatic number‑plate recognition and facial recognition cameras on every entry and exit point. Drone surveillance is also being used to keep an eye on the crowded areas.

Yadav explained that the city has been split into 25 zones, each with its own sub‑control room and help desk. This layout will let officers respond quickly to any situation and keep lines moving. For travelers, there are round‑the‑clock shuttle buses to all venues, and smart barricades will direct traffic and keep crowds from bottling up.

Digital mapping for parking and traffic is working in real time. In partnership with IIT Ropar, authorities will push live information to drivers about available parking spaces, helping to reduce congestion and keep traffic flowing.

The police say the combination of manpower, tech and smart traffic planning will make the 350th anniversary safe, orderly, and memorable for everyone attending.
