Josh Shapiro says Kamala Harris will ‘have to answer’ for never raising concerns over Biden’s health

Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro didn’t hold back on a recent podcast when discussing Kamala Harris’s silence on Joe Biden’s health issues leading up to the 2024 election. Speaking with ESPN host Stephen A. Smith on his “Straight Shooter” show, Shapiro said Harris “is going to have to answer” for not speaking up publicly, even though she was right there in the room during key moments.

Smith pressed Shapiro on why Harris waited until her new book, “107 Days,” to reveal her worries about Biden’s fitness. Shapiro admitted he hasn’t read the book yet but pointed out the obvious: Harris needs to explain her choice to stay quiet at the time. “She’s going to have to answer to how she was in the room and yet never said anything publicly,” Shapiro told Smith.

Shapiro shared that he was outspoken about Biden’s ability to run again. He reached out directly to Biden’s team, trying to give honest feedback without leaking to the media. “I tried to speak to them candidly… in a constructive manner,” he said. “I believe in talking directly to the individuals.” But Shapiro believes Biden’s staff didn’t fully level with him about the campaign’s fading chances in the 2024 presidential race.

The conversation then shifted to Shapiro’s future. Smith asked if the Pennsylvania governor eyes a 2028 presidential run and what it would take to get America—and the Democratic Party—back on track. Shapiro first gushed about his current role. “I’m humbled and honored to be the governor of Pennsylvania,” he said. “I don’t take this job for granted.”

Still, Shapiro voiced real concerns about the country’s direction and issues within his party. “We are at an inflection point,” he explained. “I’m troubled by what I’m seeing in this country, and I’m concerned about what I’m seeing in my party.” He stressed his passion for both and wants to push them toward a “commonsense direction.” As for running in 2028, Shapiro kept it open-ended: “How that voice ultimately gets heard… we’ll see. I don’t think that’s a decision that one can make sitting here right now.”

This comes amid fresh details from another book, “2024: How Trump Retook the White House and the Democrats Lost America,” by reporters from The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, and The Washington Post. It dives into Harris’s VP selection process for the 2024 election, narrowing down to three contenders: Shapiro, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, and Arizona Senator Mark Kelly. Many experts saw Shapiro, from battleground Pennsylvania, as the top pick. But the book says their interview didn’t click—Shapiro seemed too ambitious, even asking Harris to spell out his role. He admitted it wouldn’t feel natural to play second fiddle, which left a sour taste.

Fox News Digital contacted Harris’s representatives for comment but got no response. As Democrats regroup after the 2024 loss, eyes are on leaders like Shapiro to shake things up in the party ahead of 2028.
