Thousands rally in Karachi against Gaza ‘genocide’, urge Pakistan to reject Israel ties

Karachi, Pakistan – Thousands of people, including women and children, marched in the streets of Karachi on Sunday to protest what they say is genocide in Gaza by Israeli forces. The rally was organized by the Jamaat‑i‑Islam (JI) party, which called for united action from the Islamic world to back Palestinians.

Jamaat‑i‑Islam charged the protestors with carrying Palestinian flags and placards that featured images of Hamas leaders. They urged the Pakistani government to refuse any plan that supports the Abraham Accords, arguing that such moves ignore the wishes of the Palestinian people. The demonstration gathered from around the city, with supporters arriving in motorbikes, cars and buses, and converged near the Nursery bus stop for a large procession called out by JI leaders.

The party’s chief, Hafiz Naeemur Rehman, spoke at the rally and warned Pakistan against changing its long‑standing stance on Palestine. He recalled historic protests against Israel by the All India Muslim League in 1940 and told attendees that Israel had not achieved military success in Gaza because it could not secure the release of soldiers captured by Hamas. Rehman also called on Islamabad to recognize Hamas as the legitimate representative of Gaza’s people.

Rehman accused the United States of “complicity” in the Gaza conflict and criticized the United Nations for its perceived inaction, calling it a “total failure” that serves U.S. and Israeli interests. He urged Pakistan’s political parties, including Imran Khan’s PTI, to speak out against Israel and the U.S. and to support Hamas by opening its offices in Pakistan.

Other JI leaders—Dr. Osama Razi, Monem Zafar, and Advocate Saifuddin—also addressed the crowd before the rally ended peacefully. The protest highlighted widespread demand among Karachi’s residents for support of Palestinians, opposition to the Abraham Accords, and a call for new U.N. action to address the crisis in Gaza.
