Ashneer Grover opens up about life’s lows, legal battles, and financial setbacks following BharatPe controversy

Ashneer Grover, the well-known entrepreneur behind BharatPe, recently opened up about the tough times he faced after the big BharatPe controversy. In a candid chat with , he shared how legal fights, money troubles, and personal lows tested him during one of the roughest patches in his career.
When asked if the last three years’ ups and downs hit him hard mentally, Grover stayed positive. He said nothing came out of all the drama, and he sees himself as a “clean slate” now. “You should know your truth,” he explained. “People will say what they want. I’ve dealt with tons of cases and police investigations—nothing stuck. My company not only survived but turned profitable. Investors didn’t lose a dime. It’s like I went through a baptism by fire and came out unscathed. That’s huge!”
For those who missed it, the BharatPe controversy blew up with claims that Grover and his family misused company funds. Accusations included fake vendor payments, overpriced invoices, and shady reimbursements. This led to massive public attention and a messy legal battle after Grover left the company in 2022.
The good news? It all wrapped up in September 2024 with a settlement. Both sides dropped all lawsuits, and Grover cut all ties, including his shareholder stake in BharatPe.
These days, Grover is making waves as the host of the reality show “Rise & Fall.” He revealed why he jumped at the chance, saying he’s not a natural TV star. “I became a public figure thanks to Shark Tank, which exploded in popularity,” he shared. “After that, offers poured in for more business or investment shows. But I didn’t want to repeat myself just for the sake of it. I waited, and then Rise & Fall came along—it felt right.”
Grover’s story shows resilience in the world of Indian startups, proving you can bounce back from controversy stronger than before.
