A crew of mischievous thieves pulled off an unusual heist at a family‑owned Christmas tree farm in Arizona, snatching a massive 40‑foot‑tall, 20‑foot‑wide inflatable Santa Claus that had been a holiday staple on the property.
The robbery took place sometime between Saturday night and early Sunday morning at Kraemer’s Tree Lot, a Phoenix spot that’s been in business for 25 years and is known for its festive Christmas displays, according to AZ Family.
The thieves reportedly cut through the fence that surrounds the lot to get to the towering inflatable. Scratches on the gravel suggest the giant Santa was deflated and then dragged away, Kyle Kraemer, a family member, told the outlet.
“People know it is Santa’s tree lot,” Kraemer said.
“Who steals Santa? I mean, it’s Christmas time,” he added.
The inflatable has been a popular backdrop for photos for more than thirty years, drawing families to the farm each holiday season.
“The Towering Father Christmas is a popular holiday photo attraction that has been with the family‑owned Christmas tree farm for over three decades,” Kraemer’s Facebook post read.
“This one hurts. Our giant inflatable Santa was stolen from our tree lot. He’s part of what makes the season special for families who visit us,” Kraemer Tree Lot posted on Facebook.
“If anyone has info, please reach out—we’d love him back!!”
The family is left wondering how many people were required to pull off the caper and what the thieves plan to do with the iconic decoration that many locals have grown to love.
“It’d take a lot of people. Our four guys — they had trouble putting it up,” Kraemer said.
Phoenix police are now investigating the incident.
