Indian citizens wish to interact with AI agents for public sector services: Report

Indians are pushing for smarter, more personalized government services, and they’re fully on board with using AI agents to make it happen. A new report from Salesforce reveals that every single one of the 100 percent of Indian citizens surveyed said they’d turn to AI agents for dealing with public sector tasks.

At the same time, government agencies in India are ramping up efforts to boost responsiveness, efficiency, and productivity as public expectations climb higher.

“95 percent of Indian citizens want automatic enrollment in government programs they qualify for,” the report notes. They’re calling on the government to predict their needs, streamline processes, and deliver services before they’re even asked.

Nearly all—94 percent—of respondents are keen on pre-filled forms for government services. The same share wants automatic coordination for emergency responses and tailored notifications to keep them informed.

India’s push toward digital transformation stands out as one of the boldest globally, and AI agents could supercharge it. “AI agents offer a game-changing way to rethink how the government serves its people—making services quicker, easier to use, and more inclusive,” said Arundhati Bhattacharya, President and CEO of Salesforce South Asia.

She added that by handling routine, high-volume interactions, AI agents would let public servants focus on what they do best: bringing empathy, creativity, and expertise to tougher cases.

The Salesforce report also shows that 86 percent of Indians expect the government to proactively suggest services that fit their lives better.

When it comes to key upgrades for public services, people prioritize round-the-clock support, quicker responses to their needs, and stronger data security to protect personal information.

Indians are even more likely to embrace AI agents if they deliver around-the-clock access to info and services (70 percent), offer more customized help (55 percent), safeguard privacy (53 percent), and make it simpler to tap into government resources (53 percent).

This comes amid India’s rapid adoption of AI in public services, highlighting a growing demand for tech that makes bureaucracy feel more human.
