Andhra Pradesh CM seeks Central funds under Purvodaya scheme

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has asked the central government for financial help under the new Purvodaya scheme to boost the state’s growth. He made this request during a meeting with Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in New Delhi on Tuesday.

Naidu’s team says he sent a detailed proposal to Sitharaman, pushing for Andhra Pradesh to get funds from Purvodaya. This initiative targets the overall development of eastern states like Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Odisha, and Andhra Pradesh. The goal? To tap into the region’s economic potential through better agriculture, industry, and infrastructure projects. It aims to narrow gaps between regions and support inclusive growth across India.

Naidu stressed the importance of balanced development for Andhra Pradesh. His government has ready plans to make the most of Purvodaya funds for local progress. He shared a clear vision with Sitharaman: ramp up horticulture in the dry Rayalaseema area, grow more coffee plantations, cashew, and coconut farms in north Andhra Pradesh, and boost aquaculture along the coastal regions.

These efforts, Naidu said, would lift productivity, create jobs, and raise incomes in rural spots. He highlighted how Purvodaya could transform lagging areas like north Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema, which have long struggled with industrial and economic setbacks.

Naidu arrived in the capital on Tuesday and plans to speak at the Confederation of Indian Industry’s (CII) curtain-raiser event. There, he’ll spotlight investment opportunities in Andhra Pradesh and urge businesses to join the big CII Partnership Summit in Visakhapatnam on November 14 and 15. The state is already running roadshows in several countries to draw industrialists to the event.

He also has a meeting lined up with Union Home Minister Amit Shah. After an overnight stay in Delhi, Naidu heads to Visakhapatnam on October 1. From there, he’ll visit Datti village in Vizianagaram district to join the “pedala sevalo” program, distributing NTR Bharosa pensions to locals.
