Boyfriend who claimed moped-riding duo stabbed girlfriend to death on NYC road charged with murder
A shocking murder case has gripped New York City, where a 44-year-old man from the Bronx now faces charges for killing his girlfriend. Franklin Batallas allegedly stabbed 30-year-old Anthonella Contreras Linarez to death inside their car on City Island. What makes this Bronx murder story even more heartbreaking? Police arrested Batallas on Friday afternoon around 1 p.m. He faces serious charges, including murder, two counts of assault, and criminal possession of a weapon. This all unfolded on Wednesday night, turning a simple dinner drive into a nightmare.
According to law enforcement sources, the couple was heading out around 8:10 p.m. when they pulled over near Rodman’s Neck. Batallas claimed he stepped out to relieve himself on the side of a quiet road. That’s when he said two men on a moped zoomed up, tried to rob Contreras Linarez, and attacked her after she fought back. He even told cops he rushed to help and got slashed on his right forearm in the chaos.
But detectives didn’t buy the story. Contreras Linarez suffered multiple stab wounds across her body and was rushed to Montefiore New Rochelle Hospital, where she sadly passed away. Batallas, with his own injury, went to the same hospital in stable condition. Soon after, police linked him directly to the stabbing.
The victim was a dedicated registered nurse at Mount Sinai Morningside hospital in NYC. Her workplace shared a touching statement: “The Mount Sinai Health System community is mourning the loss of one of our own. We wish to convey our heartfelt condolences to family, friends, and colleagues, and ask that you keep them in your thoughts.”
Contreras Linarez’s father, Marcos Contreras, spoke to reporters the next day, clearly devastated. “I’m heartbroken,” he said. While waiting for the full investigation, he added, “There is always doubt.” His words capture the pain rippling through the family amid this tragic NYC stabbing incident.
