Key accused in Amritsar temple grenade attack arrested by NIA in Bihar

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has made a major breakthrough in solving the March 2025 grenade attack at a temple in Amritsar. The agency has arrested a key suspect, Sharanjit Kumar, also known as Sunny, in Gaya, Bihar.

This arrest happened on Friday after a careful intelligence operation. The NIA announced that they tracked and found Sharanjit after months of investigation. He is from Bhaini Bangar village in Qadian, Batala, in Punjab, and was found to be deeply involved in planning and carrying out the attack.

The deadly attack took place early on March 15 and was carried out by two bike riders, Gursidak Singh and Vishal Gill. They were acting on instructions from terror handlers based outside India. The attack was part of a larger conspiracy managed from different parts of the world, including Europe, the USA, and Canada. These international handlers supplied weapons, explosives, money, and logistical support to keep the terror network active.

Investigations revealed that Sharanjit received a bundle of four grenades from another accused person in Batala on March 1. Two days before the attack, he handed over one of these grenades to the attackers, which was used in the explosion.

After the attack, Sharanjit went into hiding and managed to avoid arrest. The NIA had previously searched Batala but couldn’t find him. Using intelligence and technical tracking, officials finally traced him to Gaya.

This arrest is an important step in breaking the terror network behind the attack. The NIA is continuing its investigation to uncover the full scope of the international conspiracy and to arrest all those involved. Authorities say their efforts aim to prevent such terror attacks and maintain peace and harmony.
