Assam Rifles troops stopped a weapons stash in Saikumphai, a small village in Champhai district of Mizoram, on Tuesday morning. Acting on reliable intelligence, soldiers raided a hidden cache and found a 9‑mm pistol, a shotgun, and 50 rounds of 7.62 live ammunition. They searched the surrounding area for any underground militants, but nothing else turned up.
The seized weapons were handed to the Dungtlang police, who will investigate and press charges. The operation is part of Assam Rifles’ ongoing push to break up illegal arms networks and keep the Mizoram border safe.
Earlier this week, the same force teamed up with Cachar police and stole a batch of Yaba tablets worth more than ₹6 crore from a suspect in Karimganj. The drug broker was caught when he tried to move 20,000 tablets by scooter through Nilam Bazaar on October 6. The squad seized the scooter, two mobile phones and the drug supply. Their joint efforts also thwarted a major IED attack in Manipur’s Jiribam, showing a broad‑range commitment to counter‑terrorism and drug trafficking in the Northeast.
Assam Rifles has become a key player in keeping Northeast India peaceful, routinely launching raids to dismantle weapons and narcotics operations. The recent successes underline the force’s promise to curb crime and protect local communities.
