“Vijay has now woken up and is meeting people”: Congress’ R Sudha slams TVK chief over criticism of DMK govt

Congress MP R Sudha Fires Back at Actor Vijay’s Criticism of DMK Government

In a heated exchange in Chennai, Congress MP R Sudha has slammed Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) chief and popular actor Vijay for his recent attacks on the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) government. Sudha accused Vijay of jumping into politics too quickly, driven by his dream of becoming Tamil Nadu’s Chief Minister.

Speaking to reporters on Saturday, Sudha pointed out that Vijay seems to have just "woken up" and started meeting people across the state. She highlighted how Congress and the Dravidian movements have long fought for people’s issues and social justice. "It’s not fair for him to make these comments now, just because he wants to become Chief Minister right away," she said.

Sudha added that those who truly stand for land rights, language preservation, people’s development, and social justice always win the trust of voters. "Elections will show who’s really with the people. Vijay is out there making big promises with words—we’ll see what happens," she remarked.

This comes right after Vijay kicked off his statewide campaign for the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections from Tiruchirappalli. At a rally in Ariyalur, the actor-turned-politician made it clear he’s not in politics for money. "My goal is to serve the people who’ve given me so much," he declared.

Vijay didn’t hold back in questioning the DMK government’s track record. He zeroed in on the party’s 2021 election manifesto, which included over 500 promises. "How many has Chief Minister MK Stalin’s government actually delivered? Instead of fulfilling them, he’s boldly claiming everything’s done," Vijay said, drawing cheers from the crowd.

He specifically called out unkept promises like restoring the old pension scheme, waiving education loans, and filling vacant government jobs. "We voted for DMK believing they’d do good. But will you vote for a party that breaks its word in the next election?" Vijay asked the audience in Trichy, capturing the growing demand for government accountability across Tamil Nadu.

Vijay also took a dig at the BJP-led central government, slamming the "One Nation, One Election" idea as a threat to democracy. He claimed it could lead to manipulations, like the missing 60 lakh voters from electoral rolls in Bihar, and even dissolve state governments. "This is nothing but the murder of democracy," he warned.

As Tamil Nadu politics heats up ahead of 2026, Vijay’s TVK is positioning itself as a fresh voice against the DMK’s rule, while allies like Congress push back hard. The battle for voter trust in social justice and development promises is just getting started.
