Arun Govil slams Humayun Kabir, calls his actions ‘anti-national’

Meerut, Dec 6 – BJP MP Arun Govil sharply rebuked the suspended TMC MLA Humayun Kabir after the latter set a foundation stone for a new Babri Masjid on Saturday. Govil called Kabir’s move “against the nation” and “completely unacceptable.” The criticism followed Kabir’s announcement of a Babri Masjid in Beldanga, Murshidabad, which he claimed would be completed in 2024; the ceremony took place on the anniversary of the 1992 demolition.

“During the event, Kabir said, ‘In 2024, I announced that I would soon inaugurate a Babri Masjid in Beldanga, Murshidabad. Today, on December 6, the anniversary of the Babri Masjid demolition, we are present here in Murshidabad,’” Govil relayed to LatestNewsX. He added that the MLA had been suspended by his own party, noting that such a statement “clearly shows how wrong and irresponsible it was.” Govil further warned that Kabir’s plans are “against the country” and “completely anti‑national,” and that they could sow discord; the MP demanded the strongest condemnation of the act.

In addition, Govil reiterated a long‑held demand for CCTV cameras in mosques and madrasas, stating, “I have made this demand with good intentions and purely for security reasons. CCTV cameras should be installed at all public and community places.”

Union Minister of State Nityanand Rai also weighed in, describing Kabir’s undertaking as inappropriate. “There is no opposition to mosques in this country. But if an invader who attacked India, destroyed the idols of Hindu deities, and demolished our sacred temples — the Mughal emperor Babur — builds a mosque in his name, then the intention is questionable, and the act is not right. Mosques are acceptable, but constructing one in Babur’s name is not appropriate,” Rai said.

Earlier, after the foundation stone was set in Murshidabad, Kabir announced that a budget of ₹300 crore had been earmarked for the project, which would mirror the original structure at Ayodhya that was demolished on December 6, 1992. He also claimed that the Calcutta High Court had confirmed that his actions were neither illegal nor unconstitutional.
