Bengaluru, Dec 2 (LatestNewsX) – Kannada heartthrob Darshan, who is currently incarcerated, has announced that his upcoming film, The Devil, will hit theaters on 11 December.
The star is being held at Bengaluru Central Prison over the high‑profile fan‑murder case that also involves his partner, Pavithra Gowda, who remains in custody. Despite his detention, Darshan finished shooting and dubbing for the film while still out on bail.
The director, Prakash Veer, told reporters in Bengaluru that the title The Devil fits the story perfectly; they didn’t shape the script around the name, but rather the name suited the narrative. He praised the actor’s professionalism and said there were no off‑shoot conversations during production. “Even when he emerged from jail and returned to the set, there was no variance in his performance,” Veer added.
Veer also explained that the production team had intended to hold a press conference only once Darshan was released. “However, after a long wait, Darshan still hasn’t re‑emerged,” he said. “So we announced the film without him present.”
He apologized to the media, noting that they had postponed multiple times in the hope the actor would be free. “The delay is simply because of these complications. I kept moving the event, hoping he would join us. Unfortunately, even today, we’re still without him,” he explained.
Veer spoke emotionally, saying that Darshan’s presence felt like “the strength of an elephant” and it would be hard to replace. He recalled that the two first discussed the project in 2018, with Darshan encouraging him to take his time on the screenplay before filming. Their momentum was interrupted by the pandemic and his father’s passing.
After finishing the hit Kaatera, the team pressed forward with The Devil, which is now set for release on 11 December. “Darshan’s absence is a huge loss for us,” Veer said, “and it’s something we can’t fill. He’s been a steadfast friend and a pillar of support. The family and fans have backed us throughout, and I’m grateful for their unwavering promotion.”
The film also stars Sharmiela Mandre, Rachana Rai, and Achyuth Kumar in key roles. A track from the movie, “Idre Nemdiyag Irbek,” has taken social media by storm.
Darshan, Pavithra Gowda, and 15 others were arrested on 11 June on accusations of kidnapping and the brutal murder of Renukaswamy in Chitradurga, Karnataka. Following allegations that he received special treatment at Bengaluru Central Prison, he was moved to Ballari prison. He faces three FIRs in this case, and the Supreme Court has revoked his bail.
