In a tragic incident last Monday, two brothers lost their lives after falling into a safety tank at their home in Noida’s Chotpur Colony, near the Sector 63 police station. The brothers, Chandrabhan (40) and his younger sibling Raju (26), had recently moved to the neighbourhood from Bulandshahr after buying a house and were known locally for their hard‑working nature as carpenters.
Early in the morning, the concrete slab that covered the safety tank collapsed. Chandrabhan, who was standing on the slab, fell straight into the tank. Raju rushed down in a desperate attempt to rescue him, but toxic gases inside the tank trapped him. Both brothers suffocated and were later pronounced dead at the hospital.
A neighbour, Hemant—a fellow resident from Bulandshahr—stepped in to help. He too inhaled the poisonous fumes, lost consciousness, and was admitted to a local hospital where he is now considered stable and out of danger.
The Sector 63 police and the fire department were called to the scene immediately. Rescue teams used a cutter to break through the floor and pull the victims out of the tank. All three were transported to a hospital, where doctors confirmed the deaths of Chandrabhan and Raju upon arrival. Hemant received treatment for gas inhalation and is recovering.
Police have taken the bodies into custody, completed a “panchnama” (first‑aid report), and sent them for post‑mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death. Authorities are now investigating whether the safety tank was structurally weak or had been improperly constructed.
The incident has sent shock waves through the Chotpur Colony. Residents expressed disbelief at the sudden tragedy, noting that the brothers had just begun renovating their newly purchased home. One neighbour said, “They had just started to settle here. No one could have imagined such a disaster.”
The Noida police appeal for calm while they investigate the incident and reinforce safety protocols for safety tanks in residential buildings. The local fire department also reminds residents to inspect and maintain safety tanks regularly to avoid similar accidents.
