NFR secures FSSAI’s ‘Eat Right Station’ status for 6 stations in Bengal

On Thursday, railway officials revealed that six stations in the Alipurduar Division of Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR)—all situated within West Bengal—have earned the Eat Right Station certification from the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI).

According to Kapinjal Kishore Sharma, NFR’s Chief Public Relations Officer, this accolade underscores the division’s steadfast focus on offering safe, hygienic, and high‑quality food services to passengers throughout its network. The certification is valid for two years, covering the period from December 4 2025 to December 3 2027.

Sharma explained that the award was granted after the stations successfully satisfied FSSAI’s stringent “Eat Right India” criteria, which assessed food handling practices, hygiene standards, waste management systems, and the overall cleanliness of the premises.

The stations recognized include:
– Jalpaiguri Road, Binnaguri, and Dhupguri (Jalpaiguri district)
– Falakata (Alipurduar district)
– Dinhata and New Coochbehar (Coochbehar district)

Each location demonstrated marked progress in food‑safety compliance, infrastructure upgrades, monitoring protocols, and the training of catering and commercial staff.

Sharma noted that the certification will provide residents in these West Bengal districts with safer, more hygienic food choices at train stations, thereby lowering the incidence of foodborne illnesses. It also motivates local vendors to adopt better practices, enhancing their businesses while raising public awareness of healthy eating.

Overall, the Eat Right Stations add to public health initiatives and help promote a positive image for Jalpaiguri, Alipurduar, and Coochbehar. NFR continues to prioritize passenger welfare by enhancing amenities and service quality, reflecting its commitment to a clean, healthy, and passenger‑friendly environment that aligns with national food‑safety and public‑health objectives.

Northeast Frontier Railway operates across the northeastern states, seven districts of West Bengal, and five districts of North Bihar.
