Delhi: 8 killed, dozen injured in car explosion near Red Fort; high alert in Maha, UP

At least eight people were killed and more than a dozen were hurt when a powerful blast ripped through parked cars near Delhi’s Red Fort Metro Station on Monday evening. The shockwave sent chaos into the crowded streets of Old Delhi, prompting authorities to raise a high‑alert level in Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Mumbai.

The injured were rushed to LNJP Hospital in Delhi. Firefighters heard blast‑like noises before being dispatched, and they found that three additional vehicles had caught fire. Seven fire engines were sent to the scene.

Police swarmed the area after the explosion. Senior officers quickly arrived, and the Delhi Police Special Cell has cordoned off the site. Ambulances brought the wounded to the hospital, while the police continued their investigation.

Social media and reports have flagged a possible terror angle, but officials have yet to confirm a motive. The incident caused widespread panic, as the old city around the Red Fort is one of the busiest parts of the capital. The high alert remains in place as agencies work to clear the wreckage and determine the cause of the deadly blast.
