Rajasthan CM reviews Jaipur Metro expansion, calls Phase-2 key to cutting traffic congestion
Jaipur, Nov 24 – Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma told reporters that the state government is working hard to create a modern, seamless transport network for Rajasthan.
With Jaipur’s population growing fast, he said expanding the metro will give residents a safer, more reliable way to get around and will help ease the city’s traffic choke points.
The remarks came during a review session on Monday at the Chief Minister’s Office, where Sharma briefed officials on the metro’s Phase‑2 plans. He underlined the importance of this project for the city’s overall mobility strategy and urged a careful review of the budget and cost estimates so that every rupee is spent efficiently and the system remains robust.
He added that new stations should be placed in the busiest parts of the city to provide the greatest benefit to commuters.
State authorities reported that the Detailed Project Report for Phase‑2 has already been approved and sent to the central government. Work will commence once the central approval is received. The new stretch will cover about 42.80 km and will feature 36 stations – 34 elevated and two underground.
Phase‑2 will tie together key hubs such as the Sitapura Industrial Area, VKI, Jaipur Airport, Jaipur Railway Station, and Gandhi Nagar Railway Station, and will link important sites including SMS Stadium, SMS Hospital, the Collectorate, Vidyadhar Nagar, Ambabari, and major residential and commercial zones along Tonk Road and Sikar Road. At the meeting the proposed routes for Phases A, B, and C were also reviewed.
Senior officials, including Chief Secretary V. Srinivas, presented detailed expansion plans during the session.
