In a live online session on Monday, Maharashtra’s Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis reached out to 25,000 village heads—or sarpanches—via the “Sarpanch Samvad” platform, built by the Quality Council of India. He said the strong connection between the state government and grassroots leaders will create prosperity for both Maharashtra and the rest of India.
“I am proud to be talking with 25,000 sarpanches at once,” Fadnavis said. “The depth of our rural‑development conversation shows how far we’re coming.” He stressed that village progress is essential for the state’s growth. The central government has poured significant funds into rural projects over the last decade, and Fadnavis vowed Maharashtra will use those resources effectively.
The CM highlighted two key ingredients for village success: public participation and strong leadership. “Sarpanches are the real changemakers,” he said. “They bring government schemes to villages and make sure farmers, women, children and health and education projects receive the right funding.”
Citing Maharashtra’s work under the Jalyukt Shivar Abhiyan, Fadnavis praised the campaign’s water‑conservation wins and its power to rally community leadership. “This effort has given agriculture a fresh direction,” he added, and also praised the Mukhyamantri Samriddhi Panchayat Raj Abhiyan for its impact across villages.
Looking ahead, the chief minister announced plans to transform every village into a “smart village.” After installing a fibre‑optic network and partnering with Starlink, the state will provide high‑speed internet to rural areas. Smart devices can boost farmer productivity and cut costs.
Maharashtra also plans to set a Guinness World Record with an expanding solar‑pump scheme. Fadnavis highlighted that the government will pay for pumps during the day and offer free electricity at night to homes. He also revealed a new mission to promote natural farming and reduce production costs.
By combining village‑level leadership, modern technology, and focused government schemes, Fadnavis says Maharashtra is charting a path to a prosperous, sustainable future for rural India.
