Mumbai, Dec 9 (LatestNewsX) – After a match‑winning display against South Africa in the Women’s ODI World Cup final, Shafali Verma is set to re‑join India for the five‑match T20I series against Sri Lanka that begins on 21 December.
The 15‑player squad also contains G. Kamalini and Vaishnavi Sharma, both of whom represented India at the U‑19 Women’s T20 World Cup.
Smriti Mandhana has been named Harmanpreet Kaur’s deputy, with Kaur taking the captaincy for the Women In Blue as they head into the Sri Lanka series.
“The Women’s Selection Committee has picked India’s squad for the upcoming five‑match T20I series against Sri Lanka Women,” the BCCI said in a statement.
Other members drawn from last year’s title‑winning side—Deepti Sharma, Sneh Rana, Jemimah Rodrigues, Harleen Deol, Amanjot Kaur, Arundhati Reddy, Kranti Gaud and Renuka Singh Thakur—complete the core lineup, with Richa Ghosh and Kamalini serving as the two wicket‑keepers.
Matches will kick off on 21 December in Visakhapatnam, which will also host the second game on 23 December. The remaining fixtures will move to Thiruvananthapuram: the third T20I falls on 26 December, the fourth on 28 December, and the final showdown on 30 December. The two venues will give India a back‑to‑back chance to wrap up the season in the T20 format.
This series also doubles as the opening phase of both teams’ preparations for the 2026 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup. Having secured the 50‑over title, India is now refocusing on the 20‑over tournament scheduled to be played in England in June 2026.
India’s full 15‑man roster is: Harmanpreet Kaur (C), Smriti Mandhana (VC), Deepti Sharma, Sneh Rana, Jemimah Rodrigues, Shafali Verma, Harleen Deol, Amanjot Kaur, Arundhati Reddy, Kranti Gaud, Renuka Singh Thakur, Richa Ghosh (WK), G Kamalini (WK), Sree Charani, and Vaishnavi Sharma.
