In Delhi on Sunday, Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Dr Mansukh Mandaviya kicked off another edition of the Sundays on Cycle campaign, a nationwide effort aimed at getting Indians moving and living healthier lives. The event, organized with the Cycling Federation of India, Yogasana Bharat, and MY Bharat, gathered people of all ages for a day of cycling, Zumba, rope‑skipping and yoga.
The theme for this week highlighted the work of doctors and health professionals. “When a doctor speaks about health, people listen,” Mandaviya said. “I want all of you, especially the medical community, to guide citizens toward a healthier life. Whether it’s fighting obesity—our Prime Minister’s vision— or promoting cycling, your message will reach every Indian.” He also urged citizens to buy domestic sports gear, calling it a boost for local industry.
The rides were joined by world‑para‑athletics medalists Praveen Kumar, Soman Rana and Sailesh Kumar, who used their platforms to inspire active living. “Exercise keeps the mind focused,” Kumar told participants. He praised the government’s push to make fitness a daily habit. Sailesh Kumar added, “It’s great that people are spinning their wheels and taking health seriously. Every person should get at least an hour of exercise every day for both body and mind.”
More than 10,000 locations across India now host Sundays on Cycle, including remote villages. In Delhi, the event ran in partnership with the Raahgiri Foundation, Fitspire and Red FM, adding live music and a game zone to keep the energy high.
Across 44 editions of the initiative, over 12.5 lakh (1.25 million) people have joined from 100,000+ venues, from sports authorities to regional training centers. This last Sunday’s turnout continued the growing trend of Indians cycling for health and fellowship, reinforcing the message that a fit body builds a stronger nation.
