In a strong critique of the Congress party, BJP MP Sambit Patra accused them of wasting 75 years of India’s progress by relying only on slogans like “Garibi Hatao” without bringing real change. He pointed out that despite decades of rule, Congress did little to eliminate poverty or implement meaningful reforms.
Speaking at the BJP headquarters in New Delhi, Patra linked the party’s historical leaders — Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi — and Sonia Gandhi, saying their time in power was filled with missed opportunities and empty promises. He emphasized that leaders like Nehru and Indira Gandhi couldn’t deliver on promises to uplift the poor, and now Rahul Gandhi has not been given a chance by the people.
Patra also criticized the Congress for always finding reasons to oppose progress. “Whenever something good happens in the country, Congress finds a reason to mourn,” he said.
He contrasted this with the Modi government’s recent economic achievements, especially the rollout of the Goods and Services Tax (GST). Patra highlighted that earlier Congress governments had the chance to introduce a unified tax system but failed to act, sticking instead to slogans.
Exciting news came with today’s GST rate cuts, which Patra said will directly help families. From September 22, shopkeepers and households will find many essential items cheaper — just in time for Navratra. Items like rice, wheat, milk products, medicines, healthcare services, farm equipment, bicycle parts, toothpaste, and electronics will see reduced prices.
Patra also praised the reduction in health and insurance premiums, calling it a big step towards easing financial burdens for families. “This isn’t just a reform; it’s happiness for everyone. Modi hai toh mumkin hai,” he said with confidence.
Overall, Patra underscored that these GST cuts and economic reforms are clear benefits of the Modi government’s leadership, promising a brighter, more affordable future for Indian families.
