Empower every daughter: Leaders reaffirm commitment on International Day of the Girl Child

On October 11, India marked the International Day of the Girl Child, a global call to protect and empower young girls. Leaders from across the country used the day to renew promises that every girl will get safe, quality schooling and equal chances to succeed.

The government’s Press Information Bureau shared a sharp message on X. “Girls across India are rising with confidence, resilience and vision,” the post said. “The government is committed to creating opportunities that nurture their potential and ensure equal access to education, safety and growth.”

Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari echoed that pledge. “On this #InternationalDayOfTheGirlChild,” he tweeted, “let’s reaffirm our commitment to empower every daughter with education, safety and opportunity. Aligned with PM Modi’s Beti Bachao Beti Padhao, we must build a nation where girls can dream freely, learn fearlessly and lead confidently.”

In Delhi, BJP chief Ashish Sood added that the focus must be on quality education and self‑determination. “Today we reaffirm our pledge that every girl has access to excellent schooling, equal opportunities and freedom to shape her own future,” he said. “When girls learn, lead and inspire, we all benefit.”

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge took a broader view. “Gender equality is the foundation of social, political and economic progress,” he said. “We must put girls at the center of change, listen to their voices, and bring them into decision‑making rooms. Investing in girls builds a fairer, more hopeful world for everyone.”

The International Day of the Girl Child, held each year on October 11, shines a spotlight on the challenges girls face worldwide. In India, the day reaffirms push‑back against gender gaps through legislation, community work, and education reforms that keep girls on the path to a dignified future.

As the day ended, messages from leaders and citizens alike rang the same note: there’s still work to do. Yet the collective resolve is clear—India aims to create a world where every girl can learn, lead, and live with dignity and opportunity.
