Drugs valued at Rs 8 crore seized in Tripura; two held

Assam Rifles and the Customs Department rolled up their sleeves in Agartala on Monday and pulled off a major drug bust. 800 grams of high‑grade cocaine—worth almost ₹8 crore—went straight into police hands, while two suspected traffickers were taken into custody. The raid followed solid intelligence and marked one of the region’s biggest cocaine recoveries in recent months, according to a Defence Spokesman.

Security forces didn’t stop there. Earlier that week, a joint operation between the Tripura State Rifles, the Central Reserve Police Force, regional police and the forest department took on illegal cannabis farms in the Sepahijala district. The team destroyed roughly 12 lakh semi‑mature cannabis plants, an estimated ₹50 crore worth of crop. Superintendent of Police Bijoy Debbarma led the sweep across Sutarmura, Toktumadum, Chitta Rambari, Ukyamura, Tulamura Kamalnagar and Ghatigar, all under credible intelligence.

These actions underline the army and police’s pledge to keep Northeast India drug‑free. The Assam Rifles said the seizure and the cannabis destruction demonstrate their unwavering commitment to protecting young people from drug abuse and safeguarding the region’s security.

The operations also send a clear message to traffickers: drug‑free Tripura and Assam stand united. As authorities tighten their net, the future of the Northeast looks steadier against the menace of narcotics trafficking and illicit cultivation.
