Ayodhya in Uttar Pradesh buzzed with excitement on Monday as the seventh edition of the famous Ramleela kicked off at Ram Katha Park. This grand celebration of Lord Ram’s life drew crowds with its mix of devotion and theater, starting right from the birth of Lord Ram.
Actor Vindu Dara Singh stole the show as Lord Shiva, while veteran Avtar Gill shone in the role of Narad Muni. Bollywood’s Sonam Tiwari added grace as Goddess Parvati. The lineup includes stars like Puneet Ishwar, MP Manoj Tiwari, and MP Ravi Kishan, promising thrilling Ramayan scenes over the next few days.
Organizers call this Ayodhya Ramleela one of the world’s biggest productions. Last year, a whopping 450 million people tuned in through live telecast. Founder-President Subhash Malik and General Secretary Shubham Malik shared that the event airs live every evening from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m., inviting devotees to watch from home and send their blessings.
The first day packed in several key Ramayan moments. It opened with Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati hearing tales of Lord Ram. Then came Kamdev interrupting Narad’s meditation, leading to Narad turning into a monkey to set up a swayamvar. Viewers also saw Lord Vishnu getting a curse that he’d need monkey help later on. The evening wrapped with Ravana, Kumbhakarna, and Meghnad deep in penance, asking for powerful boons.
Vindu Dara Singh, fresh from his Shiva performance, beamed, “Om namah Shivaya—that’s all I can say. Serving Lord Shiva in Ayodhya thrills me. Ramleela happens everywhere in India, but Ayodhya’s version is truly magnificent.”
Avtar Gill, embodying Narad, added, “I visit Ayodhya yearly, and it’s growing more grand each time. New roads, real development—Ayodhya is thriving.”
Naval, playing Lord Indra, felt grateful: “This marks my third time in Ramleela. What luck to join this holy show on Lord Ram’s land.”
The Ramleela runs for days ahead, bringing more epic Ramayan chapters to life. Expect huge crowds on-site and even bigger audiences watching the Ayodhya Ramleela broadcast.
