Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha extended warm congratulations to the newly elected Vice President of India, C.P. Radhakrishnan, on Tuesday. In a post on X, Sinha praised Radhakrishnan’s wisdom and experience, saying they will boost the nation’s progress and prosperity.
Radhakrishnan, a seasoned BJP leader with strong ties to the RSS, made history as the 15th Vice President of India. At 67, he’s the third person from Tamil Nadu to hold this key position. He steps in after Jagdeep Dhankhar resigned on July 21 due to health issues.
The Vice President election unfolded smoothly between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m., with 781 members from the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha forming the electoral college. While most MPs voted, 13 chose to abstain—seven from Biju Janata Dal, four from Bharat Rashtra Samithi, one from Shiromani Akali Dal, and one independent.
As the NDA’s nominee and current Governor of Maharashtra, Radhakrishnan went head-to-head against Justice B. Sudershan Reddy, the INDIA bloc’s candidate. Prime Minister Narendra Modi kicked off the voting, joined by top leaders like Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh, J.P. Nadda, and Kiren Rijiju. On the opposition bench, Rahul Gandhi, Mallikarjun Kharge, Sonia Gandhi, and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra also cast their votes.
This election came exactly 50 days after Dhankhar’s resignation, highlighting a straight fight between the ruling NDA and the opposition INDIA alliance. Radhakrishnan’s win marks a big moment for Indian politics, especially for BJP and RSS supporters.
