Women’s World Cup: We’ll try to play good cricket in last two games, says Pakistan’s Fatima Sana

Pakistan’s Women’s cricket team faced a tough break in Colombo when their World Cup match against New Zealand went off‑schedule because of rain. Captain Fatima Sana said the washout was frustrating but she stayed focused on what comes next.

The rain‑cut game meant both Pakistan and New Zealand still need to finish strong to keep their hopes alive. Sana praised her bowlers for showing real strength on a pitch that helped the ball move, but she noted their batting still needs work.

“We had a solid start in the power‑play, but we lost a few wickets,” Sana told reporters. “If we had made around 180, our bowlers could have kept New Zealand down. Our bowlers are doing a great job – we’re all confident in their performance. Next time, we’ll work on it.”

She said the Colombo pitch surprised her: “Everyone said it would spin, but I got a lot of seam movement. It was great for my bowling and I took wickets early on.”

Sana also highlighted team spirit. “Being captain is hard when we haven’t won many matches, but the girls support me. I enjoy the role and my bowling, and that keeps us moving forward,” she added.

With two games still to play, Pakistan aims to finish the World Cup on a high note. Their next match is on October 21 against South Africa, followed by a final game against Sri Lanka on October 24. The team hopes to gain momentum and build a stronger future.
