Mauritius PM to visit Varanasi last week, to hold bilateral meeting with PM Modi

Mauritius Prime Minister Navinchandra Ramgoolam is set to arrive in India on a significant state visit, with a key stop in the holy city of Varanasi. The visit, scheduled from September 9th to 16th, marks his first overseas bilateral trip to India in his current term.
A major highlight of the Mauritius PM’s itinerary is his visit to Varanasi, the parliamentary constituency of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, from September 10th to 12th. The two leaders are scheduled to hold a crucial bilateral meeting in Varanasi on September 11th. Following their talks, PM Modi will return to Delhi.
During his time in Varanasi, also known as Kashi, Prime Minister Ramgoolam will experience the city’s rich spiritual culture. He is slated to attend the famous Ganga Aarti on the evening of September 11th. The next day, he will offer prayers at the revered Kashi Vishwanath Temple before traveling to Ayodhya.
This visit reinforces the strong and historic bond between India and Mauritius. Last month, on India’s Independence Day, PM Ramgoolam highlighted this special connection, noting that the ties are “rooted in history, culture and ties that continue to inspire cooperation, friendship and mutual respect.” In response, PM Modi called Mauritius a “strategic and trusted partner.”
Beyond Varanasi and Ayodhya, the Mauritius Prime Minister’s India tour will also include stops in Mumbai for a business event and a visit to Tirupati.
This visit follows PM Modi’s trip to Mauritius earlier this year to attend the country’s National Day celebrations, underscoring the continued high-level engagement between the two nations.
