Mamata Banerjee allowing Bengal to become hub of illegal immigrants: Giriraj Singh says amid SIR row

In New Delhi on Wednesday, Union Minister Giriraj Singh launched a fierce verbal onslaught against West Bengal Chief Minister “Mamata Banerjee,” alleging that her administration has been turning the state into a gateway for illegal immigrants, including Rohingyas. Singh warned that the Trinamool Congress has been jeopardising national security for its own political advantage and that the party relies on a growing number of unlawful migrants to shepherd its govern—an approach he says fuels anti‑constitutional sentiment and hostility toward Hindus.
He criticised Banerjee’s recent remarks about the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls, declaring that her defiance signals an impending “political collapse.” Singh added that soon a change of power would occur, leading to on‑the‑ground actions that would purge illegal residents. He also hinted that states such as West Bengal will eventually adopt NRC procedures.
BJP MP Praveen Khandelwal echoed these accusations, calling Banerjee’s stance “foolish.” He stressed that SIR is a matter for the Election Commission and that any interference with the EC’s work would be dealt with by law. “Let her stop trying to undermine the BJP’s foundations,” he urged.
Bihar Minister Nitin Nabin took a harsher tone, labeling Banerjee’s administration “anarchic.” He warned that her plan to run the government on the support of Bangladeshi infiltrators would not succeed and would fail even within West Bengal itself, let alone the nation.
The clash intensified after Banerjee voiced concerns that “terrible chaos” could erupt once the draft voter list is released on December 9, following the first phase of the three‑stage SIR. She had earlier complained to an anti‑SIR rally in Bangaon, pointing to technical glitches and alleged misuse of technology: “Internet issues make it hard for booth‑level officers (BLOs) to upload the enumeration forms… I hear that Artificial Intelligence (AI) is being used in the SIR exercise to replace genuine voters with false ones.”
Despite these accusations, Banerjee reassured that her administration would help voters supply required documents so their names stay on the electoral roll.
