Kathmandu – Nepal welcomed the new peace agreement between Israel and Hamas, urging the swift release of all hostages, including Nepali national Bipin Joshi who has been held by Hamas since the Oct. 7 attack.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs posted on the social‑media platform X that Nepal supports the first phase of the U.S. President’s Middle East Peace Plan. “We call for the immediate release of all hostages, including Bipin Joshi,” the ministry said, adding that the plan should be implemented in its true spirit.
The post praised the United States, Qatar, Egypt, and Turkey for their key roles in securing the deal. It also stressed the need for free humanitarian aid to reach Gaza and for a lasting peace that benefits the wider region.
Earlier this month, the Times of Israel reported a video showing Bipin Joshi, a Nepalese agricultural student abducted during the Oct. 7 Hamas assault. The Israeli Defence Forces captured the footage, which the Times said was taken in November. In May, Israel noted that Joshi’s status was unknown but that his family remained hopeful.
The Israeli government has approved phase one of a U.S.‑brokered ceasefire plan, which includes host‑age exchanges and an Israeli pullback from parts of Gaza, according to U.S. officials present at the cabinet meeting in Jerusalem. The ceasefire is set to take effect immediately, as reported by CNN.
Hamas negotiator Khalil al‑Hayya said the U.S. guarantees confirm that the first phase of the agreement marks the war’s end in Gaza, adding that the deal brings much‑awaited relief to civilians and the region.
