India’s homegrown stealth frigate, INS Satpura, docked in Colombo, Sri Lanka, on Sunday, greeted with enthusiasm by the Sri Lanka Navy. This visit highlights the strong bond between the two nations and their shared goals for peace in the region.
The Indian Navy shared the news on X, noting how the warm welcome from @srilanka_navy shows the lasting friendship and joint efforts toward regional stability and growth.
During its stay, INS Satpura’s crew will team up with Sri Lankan sailors for hands-on training, including rescue operations and force protection exercises. They’ll also join in yoga sessions and sports events to build camaraderie.
The ship’s commanding officer met with Rear Admiral SJ Kumara, head of Sri Lanka’s Western Naval Area. They talked about ways to strengthen naval cooperation and joint operations, aligning with India’s Neighbourhood First policy and the SAGAR initiative for security and growth in the Indian Ocean region.
India and Sri Lanka share deep roots going back over 2,500 years, with ties built on history, culture, and everyday people-to-people connections. As Sri Lanka’s closest neighbor, India places it at the heart of its foreign policy, including the Neighbourhood First approach and SAGAR vision. Their partnership covers everything from trade to security, backed by frequent high-level visits that keep the momentum going.
