Digvijaya Singh condemns ‘mentality’ behind attack on CJI

Bhopal – On Monday, former Madhya Pradesh chief minister and senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh called the object‑throwing incident at Chief Justice of India B.R. Gavai’s courtroom “a disrespect of a Dalit.”
He slammed the mindset behind the act and said it must not occur simply because a Dalit occupies the country’s top judicial post.
“If that’s why people act this way, it is unacceptable,” Singh told . “I want the perpetrator punished.”

The leader also weighed in on upcoming elections. When Congress announced Bihar’s election dates, Singh warned that voter discontent will help the opposition on the state’s November 14 vote. He blamed election‑roll tampering and called for stronger safeguards.

In a broader critique, he named unemployment, inflation and poverty as the biggest issues affecting voters nationwide. “The poor are getting poorer while the rich get richer,” he said, accusing Prime Minister Narendra Modi for failing to care for the distressed.
Singh attacked the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) government in Madhya Pradesh after the death of children linked to a toxic cough syrup in Chhindwara. He demanded the resignation of Chief Minister Kamal Nath and the state health minister, saying the government’s clean‑chit to the culprits and light punishment of officials was an administrative failure. “Why are poisoned cough syrups sold without a prescription or drug‑control inspection?” he asked.

The congressman also questioned Narendra Modi’s claim in his Independence Day speech that the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) is the world’s largest NGO. He asked, “Is the RSS a registered NGO? Is it allowed to collect money?” and raised concerns about the legality of the Prime Minister Cares Fund, pointing to the Supreme Court’s unanswered query on the fund’s creation.

Digvijaya Singh’s remarks paint a sharp picture of frustration with political and administrative actions—highlighting caste disrespect, election manipulation, economic inequality and public safety issues as key that voters care about.
