Shocking Murder in Dallas: Cuban Undocumented Immigrant Arrested for Beheading Indian National
A horrific murder in Dallas, Texas, has left a community in shock. On Wednesday, 41-year-old Indian national Chandra Nagamallaiah lost his life in a brutal attack at a local motel. The suspect, 37-year-old Yordanis Cobos-Martinez, an undocumented immigrant from Cuba, faces capital murder charges after allegedly decapitating the victim with a machete.
The violence broke out in the morning when Nagamallaiah, a motel merchant, told Martinez not to use a broken washing machine. Reports say Martinez got furious because Nagamallaiah used a woman to translate instead of speaking directly to him. What followed was a nightmare: Martinez chased Nagamallaiah with the machete in front of the victim’s wife and child, beheaded him, and even kicked the head like a soccer ball before dumping it in a trash bin.
A chilling video circulating on social media captured the entire gruesome scene, showing Martinez’s attack in the motel parking lot. Dallas Police arrested him on the spot, and he’s now held at Dallas County Jail.
Just two days later, on September 13, the US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) stepped in. They announced that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has begun the process to deport—or "remove"—Martinez from the country. DHS highlighted his long criminal record, which includes child sex abuse, grand theft auto, false imprisonment, and carjacking. "This illegal alien from Cuba has a rap sheet full of serious crimes," a DHS statement noted.
DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin pointed fingers at the previous Biden administration. She said the attack was "completely preventable" if Martinez hadn’t been released into the US. According to DHS, ICE had him in custody at the Bluebonnet Detention Center until January 13, 2025, when they let him out on supervision because Cuba wouldn’t take him back.
The tragedy has drawn strong reactions. California Democrat Ro Khanna condemned the killing on X (formerly Twitter). "The brutal beheading of a hardworking Indian American immigrant in front of his wife and son is horrific," he wrote. "The murderer had multiple prior arrests for violent theft and child endangerment and was undocumented. He should not have been free on American streets."
This case spotlights ongoing debates about undocumented immigrants, border security, and ICE deportations in the US. As investigations continue, families and officials mourn the loss of Nagamallaiah, a dedicated worker far from home.
