Two senior JD-U leaders join Jan Suraaj; Uday Singh targets Nitish Kumar

Two senior leaders leave JD-U to join Jan Suraaj, signaling shifts ahead of Bihar elections

In a surprising move ahead of the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections, two experienced politicians — Dasai Chaudhary and Bhuvan Patel — have left the Janata Dal United (JD-U) and joined the Jan Suraaj Party. They were welcomed warmly at a ceremony held at Uday Singh’s residence in Sheikhpura, where the new members received the party’s signature yellow scarf.

Uday Singh, the national president of Jan Suraaj, didn’t hold back in criticizing JD-U and its leader, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. He said, “Nitish Kumar once walked on the right path with good leaders like them, but now he has lost his way. He’s surrounded by people who are leading Bihar toward destruction. His name will not shine in history the way it once did.” Singh emphasized that these leaders didn’t leave for positions but because they felt “suffocated” in the JD-U.

Dasai Chaudhary, a seasoned politician who has been elected as MLA three times and served as a minister, explained his reasons for switching parties. He said, “I supported Nitish Kumar in the past against Lalu Yadav, but I never got proper responsibilities or a place in the government. I am not interested in contesting elections; I just want to work honestly for the party and the organization.”

Bhuvan Patel, a founding member of the Samata Party and a former district president in East and West Champaran, also spoke about his reasons. He called Nitish Kumar a “genius” leader but pointed out that due to his age, others are now running the government behind the scenes. Patel revealed that he previously worked with political strategist Prashant Kishor in JD-U and is excited to join him again in Jan Suraaj.

This move comes at a time when JD-U is facing internal dissatisfaction from several senior leaders who are unhappy ahead of the Bihar elections. Many believe that the entry of experienced politicians like Chaudhary and Patel will strengthen Jan Suraaj, a new party led by Prashant Kishor and Uday Singh, as they gear up for a strong contest in the upcoming polls.
