Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia took a close look at the ongoing Gwalior Railway Station redevelopment project on Sunday, pushing officials to wrap it up quickly. This major Gwalior railway station modernisation effort aims to blend the city’s rich heritage with top-notch facilities for travelers.
During his visit, Scindia chatted with the team and closely examined the construction materials and overall design. He stressed the need for high-quality stones in the flooring to capture Gwalior’s cultural essence. “No shortcuts on quality,” he firmly instructed, ensuring the project honors the area’s history while going modern.
Speaking to reporters after the inspection, Scindia highlighted the bigger picture. “The Gwalior railway station redevelopment isn’t just about upgrading the building—it’s about giving passengers world-class amenities and spotlighting our heritage to boost tourism in the Gwalior-Chambal region,” he said. He urged the officials to accelerate the work and meet the deadline, adding that they promised to deliver a truly world-class station on time.
Originally set to finish by December 2024, the project hit delays for unclear reasons. Just two months back, Deputy Chief Engineer Akash Yadav got transferred over the slow progress. Now, with a hefty budget of Rs 534.70 crore, the revamped Gwalior station will cover a massive 48,061 square meters.
Once done, this Gwalior railway station modernisation marvel will feature stunning local art and architecture that screams Gwalior’s heritage. Travelers can look forward to better lighting, escalators, lifts for easy access, clear signage, a huge roof plaza, comfy waiting areas, and fun spots to relax. It’s all about mixing tradition with today’s comforts to make journeys smoother and more enjoyable.
