Traffic mishap kills three in Afghanistan

Deadly Road Accidents Rock Afghanistan: Multiple Crashes Claim Lives

In a tragic incident in northern Afghanistan’s Samangan province, three travelers lost their lives and two others suffered injuries when their car flipped over on a road. The accident happened late Friday night in the Dara-e-Sufi Payan area, according to a statement from the provincial police. Officials point to reckless driving as the main cause, and they quickly rushed the injured passengers to a nearby health center for treatment.

This crash is just the latest in a string of road accidents in Afghanistan that have turned deadly. Earlier that same Friday morning, two more people—a driver and a commuter—died in two separate collisions at a busy road crossing in Samangan. Four others got hurt in those mishaps, and authorities moved them to a hospital in the neighboring Balkh province for urgent care.

The bad news didn’t stop there. On Tuesday, a horrific collision involving three motorbikes in the western Badghis province claimed one life on the spot and left five people injured, some critically. The crash occurred in the provincial capital, Qala-e-Naw, again due to careless driving, said police spokesman Sediqullah Sediqi. Rescuers took all the injured to a local hospital right away.

Then, on Wednesday morning, disaster struck in northern Afghanistan’s Baghlan province. A mini-bus veered off a crowded road in the Khost-o-Faring area and plunged into a ravine, killing nine passengers instantly and injuring seven more. Provincial police spokesman Mawlawi Shir Ahmad Burhani confirmed the details, noting that the road’s congestion likely played a role. The injured victims, including those in serious condition, received immediate medical attention.

Going back to Monday, two more accidents added to the toll. In northern Badakhshan province, 17 commuters died in a car crash, while in eastern Ghazni province, two people got injured in another vehicle mishap. These incidents highlight the growing dangers of road travel in Afghanistan, where reckless driving and poor road conditions often lead to heartbreaking losses.

As Afghanistan grapples with these frequent road accidents, authorities urge drivers to stay cautious and follow traffic rules to prevent more tragedies.
