Over 100 Paris Paralympics medallists to battle for glory at World Para Athletics C’ships

Get ready for an exciting showdown in New Delhi! The World Para Athletics Championships kicks off from September 27 to October 5 at the famous Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium. This mega event will bring together over 2,200 athletes and support staff from 104 countries, battling it out in 186 medal events. It’s shaping up to be India’s largest para sports extravaganza ever, and it’s the first time the country hosts this global spectacle.

Expect plenty of heart-pounding action, intense rivalries, and jaw-dropping performances. More than 100 Paris Paralympics medal winners—who grabbed a whopping 308 medals in total (112 gold, 96 silver, and 100 bronze)—are back to shine on this grand stage. The competition has grown bigger too, with 15 more events than the last one in Kobe. You’ll see 101 men’s events, 84 for women, and one mixed race, giving everyone a shot at glory.

Headlining the stars is Germany’s Markus Rehm, the unbeatable “Blade Jumper.” This four-time Paralympic champ and seven-time world winner in men’s long jump T64 holds a world record that beats every Olympic gold jump this century. He’s ready to leap into history again.

India’s own hero, Sumit Antil, will thrill the home fans. As a two-time Paralympic gold medallist in men’s javelin F64 and the defending World Para Athletics Championships champ, he’s set to defend his title with his signature power throws.

Don’t miss Switzerland’s Catherine Debrunner, who dominated Paris with five golds and a silver across six events. She’s gearing up for five races here in New Delhi, hungry to repeat that incredible run.

Indian high jumper Praveen Kumar, a Paralympian in men’s T64, wants to cap his collection with a World Para Athletics Championships gold right on home turf. He’s pumped and ready.

Brazil’s Petrucio Ferreira, the world’s fastest Paralympian, aims for his fifth straight world title in men’s 100m T47. Speed demons, take note! And India’s flag bearer Preeti Pal, fresh off two bronze medals at Paris 2024 and a strong showing in Kobe, will push hard in her events.

Australia’s Vanessa Low returns to the JLN Stadium, where she knows the turf well. After her Paris gold in women’s long jump T63, she’ll lead a pack of top jumpers.

Other big names joining the fray include Algeria’s Safia Djelal, France’s Jesse Zesseu, and Algeria’s Nassima Saifi—all Paris Paralympics medallists adding serious star power.

But it’s not just the veterans; rising stars from around the world will make their mark too. Whether you’re a die-hard para athletics fan or just love inspiring sports stories, this New Delhi event promises moments that’ll stick with you. Tune in and cheer for the champions!
