Gujarat CM inaugurates ‘Bharatkool Chapter-2’ event, calls for positive, purposeful criticism in nation-building

Ahmedabad, Dec 12 – At the kickoff of Bharatkool Chapter‑2 hosted by the Gujarat Media Club at Gujarat University on Friday, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel highlighted how media power shapes an evolving society.

Speaking to journalists and students, he stressed that “every criticism must carry a positive intent and a commitment to public welfare,” noting that constructive questioning only strengthens governments.

The CM also pointed out that 2025 will be a landmark year, marking the 150th birth anniversaries of Birsa Munda and Sardar Patel, while commemorating 150 years of Vande Mataram.

Drawing inspiration from the vibrancy displayed at National Tribal Pride Day and Bharat Parv in Ekta Nagar, he urged young people to stay connected to India’s civilizational roots while embracing modern realities.

Emphasizing the need for teamwork to achieve the vision of a “Viksit Bharat @2047,” CM Patel said Gujarat will keep leading with its blend of cultural heritage and developmental zeal.

Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi added that Gujarat’s growth narrative is driven by “bhaav, raag and taal” – emotion, harmony and rhythm – and praised the event for mirroring the state’s ethos through its themes.

He cited major cultural projects, like India’s largest music studio in Vadnagar, as proof of the government’s sustained focus on heritage and creativity.

Sanghavi also encouraged the organisers to forward research‐based recommendations so that the insights from such forums can inform policymaking.

The gathering featured reflections from BAPS saint Brahmavihari Swami, who spoke about the media’s duty to uncover truth while also prompting self‑reflection.

Gujarat Media Club President Nirnay Kapoor outlined the purpose of BharatCool—now entering its second chapter—as a platform to celebrate India’s rich cultural identity.

MPs, senior journalists, cultural enthusiasts and a large number of students attended the event.

India’s media landscape remains one of the world’s largest and most diverse, encompassing thousands of newspapers, hundreds of news channels, a fast‑growing digital space, and a lively regional press.

While it plays a pivotal role in shaping public opinion, holding power accountable and amplifying grassroots concerns, the sector also contends with pressures—from political polarization and corporate influence to dwindling newsroom budgets and the chase for instant, high‑engagement content.

Despite these challenges, Indian media endures as a dynamic and influential pillar of democracy, continually adapting to technological shifts and the needs of a young, hyper‑connected audience.
