In Shimla, the state government is busy preparing for two big events. Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu called a meeting on Saturday to review plans for the unveiling of a statue of the late former chief minister Virbhadra Singh. The ceremony is set for October 13, 2025, at the historic Ridge in Shimla.
The CM said the event will be run by the state government and the AICC, with MP Rajni Patil and other senior Congress leaders expected to attend. He told officers to finish all arrangements on time and to put strong security measures in place. Key officials—including Public Works Minister Vikramaditya Singh, MLA Harish Janartha, media advisor Naresh Chauhan, HIMUDA Vice Chair Yashwant Chhajta, and Deputy Commissioner Anupam Kashyap—were at the meeting.
Sukhu also reminded his team that the statue unveiling is part of a broader push to celebrate Himachal Pradesh’s political history and to boost tourism and state pride.
At the same time, the chief minister highlighted the state’s rapid strides in healthcare. He announced new projects such as the PGI Satellite Centre in Una, upgraded equipment at Indira Gandhi Medical College in Shimla, and an expanded Him Care Scheme. The government is rolling out digital health systems from local clinics up to the state level to improve service efficiency and patient care.
A new robotic surgery facility now operates at Atal Super Speciality Institute in Chamiana and Tanda Medical College. Plans are to introduce robotic surgery gradually at other medical colleges across the state.
To support these upgrades, the government is hiring more staff: 200 medical officers, 38 assistant professors for super‑specialty departments, and 400 trainee staff nurses. It also increased pay for essential technical staff, such as radiographers and X‑ray technicians, to address shortages in the health sector.
These initiatives aim to strengthen Himachal Pradesh’s healthcare network, ensure better access to specialised services for residents, and support the state’s growth in both tourism and public health.
