India Advances to Women’s Asia Cup Final After China Beats South Korea
India’s women’s hockey team is all set for a thrilling showdown in the Women’s Asia Cup final. Thanks to China’s narrow 1-0 victory over South Korea in the final Super 4s match, the Indian Women in Blue have secured their spot. The two teams will now battle it out for the title on Monday in Hangzhou, China.
China topped the Super 4s table with a perfect record—three wins and nine points. India finished second with four points from one win, one loss, and one draw. South Korea, with just one point from an earlier draw, couldn’t catch up and ended at the bottom after two losses. Japan sits third with two points from two draws and a loss.
India’s path to the final included a hard-fought 1-1 draw against Japan on Saturday. Beauty Dung Dung gave India an early lead in the 7th minute by deflecting a shot from Neha into the net. The game kicked off with India dominating the opening minutes—Ishika Chaudhary even hit the goalpost early on. Japan pushed back but couldn’t break through before the first quarter ended 1-0.
In the second quarter, Japan came out strong, hunting for a goal and earning a penalty corner. But India’s defense held firm, and the team regained control to keep the lead at halftime.
The third quarter saw India ramp up the pressure, with Lalremsiami leading several attacks. The Indian women controlled the game and created chances, but Japan’s defense stood tall, and no more goals came. India still led 1-0 heading into the final quarter.
Japan turned up the heat in the last stretch, desperate for an equalizer. They finally got it in the 58th minute through Shiho Kobayakawa, making it 1-1. India responded with a series of penalty corners, but time ran out. The match ended in a draw, keeping India’s hopes alive for the final.
