National Motorcycle Racing C’ship: Sarthak Chavan takes pole position in premier Pro-Stock 301-400cc open class

In the heart-pounding action of the fourth round of the MMSC fmsci Indian National Motorcycle Racing Championship 2025, 18-year-old Sarthak Chavan from Pune turned heads at the Madras International Circuit in Chennai. Riding for the Petronas TVS Racing team, Sarthak shook off a nasty crash during Friday morning’s free practice session and stormed to the pole position in the premier Pro-Stock 301-400cc Open category. He clocked an impressive 1 minute, 48.047 seconds around the 3.712 km track, setting up an epic showdown with championship leader Rahil Pillarisetty from Hyderabad.

Rahil, a 27-year-old with RACR Castrol Power1, grabbed second place just 0.037 seconds behind at 1:48.084. He holds a slim nine-point lead over Sarthak in the standings, making their rivalry a must-watch for motorcycle racing fans in India. Rounding out the front row for Saturday’s Race-1 is 17-year-old local star Rakshith Dave from Chennai, also with Petronas TVS Racing. Rakshith posted 1:49.575, outperforming several seasoned riders and showing why he’s a rising talent.

Excitement didn’t stop there. In the Stock 301-400cc Novice category, Bengaluru businessman Jagadeesh Nagaraj, 29, scored his first-ever national championship pole with Motul Sparks Racing. He edged out Thiruvallur’s Mohamed Mikail from Mad Rabbit Racing in second and Shyam Sundar from KYT Helmet ISBK Racing in third, proving underdogs can shine in Indian motorcycle racing.

Other standout qualifiers included Hyderabad’s Rajender Beedani from MAI Racing, who took pole in the Stock 165cc Novice class, and Chennai’s Kamal Navas from Rockers Racing, topping the Super Stock Intermediate 165cc category.

The Petronas TVS One-Make Championship added more thrills. Nagercoil’s Ajay Xavier, fighting from the back of the Expert (Apache RR 310) standings, surprised everyone by snagging pole. In the Women’s segment, Chennai’s Elakiya Ravi led the way, finishing ahead of Trichy’s SP Shuria and points leader Jagathishree Kumaresan from Chennai.

Over in the Idemitsu Honda India Talent Cup on the Honda CB 300F bikes, Chennai’s Solomon R, the current points leader, claimed pole position. Jammu’s Raivat Dhar and Tumakuru’s Tejash BA joined him on the front row, with all three separated by less than a second—promising a nail-biting race for young riders in this key development series for Indian motorcycle racing talent.

Races kick off Saturday at the Madras International Circuit, where speeds and strategies will decide who grabs the glory in this national showdown.
