Wife of missing football coach Travis Turner breaks silence after husband mysteriously vanishes: ‘Keep praying’

Leslie Turner, who lost her husband last week, asked anyone who could help to “keep praying” that her missing husband, Travis, would find his way back home.

“I just wanted to get on here for a second to clear up something, as of right now, 10:25 PM on Friday night, Travis is missing, & that’s all we know,” she wrote in a Facebook post that has since been deleted, according to a local news outlet.

“We love him & need him here with us. Thank you to everyone who has reached out with love & support. It means more than you know. Just keep praying that he comes home,” she added.

Travis, the 46‑year‑old head football coach at Union High School in Big Stone Gap, was officially declared missing by the Virginia State Police on Sunday, after last being seen Thursday in a gray sweatshirt and sweatpants.

Police had been called to his Appalachian home that afternoon to look into a reported complaint – not an arrest – and found him unaccounted for when they arrived.

The details of the complaint are still undisclosed. In the same time frame, Wise County Public Schools placed one of its employees on administrative leave while an external agency reviews a report that has been forwarded to the division.

Neither the school nor the police confirmed whether the employee on leave was the missing coach or not. The district statement explained that the action is “standard procedure and not a determination of wrongdoing” and that it is linked to an ongoing law‑enforcement inquiry, so no further comment is possible.

Since the announcement of Travis’ disappearance, the state police have mounted an extensive search, deploying search and rescue teams, drones, and K‑9 units to locate him.

Union High’s football program was in the middle of an undefeated season when Travis vanished, and assistant coach Jay Edwards has taken over all coaching duties while the search continues.
