Kabul, Nov 30 (LatestNewsX) – Police in Nimroz province intercepted a drug smuggling attempt and arrested the suspect. According to provincial police spokesman Mawlawi Gul Mohammad Qudrat, the man was trying to take 3 kg of methamphetamine out of the region when authorities stopped him and placed him in custody, Xinhua News Agency reported.
Afghanistan banned the cultivation of illicit crops such as poppy and hashish in 2022 and has pledged to keep fighting drug production, processing and trafficking until the country is rid of the drug menace.
On November 16 the Ministry of Interior Affairs disclosed that counter‑narcotics units seized crystal meth and other narcotics, including 86 kg of raw hashish, 5 kg of crystal meth, a separate quantity of methamphetamine, stimulant tablets and additional drugs. The seizure happened during routine police operations, and 21 suspected smugglers were arrested across several provinces. The ministry reiterated it will not tolerate the production, sale or trafficking of illegal drugs.
In a separate operation on November 14, provincial police spokesman Nizamudin Omir said that a suspected smuggler was apprehended in Takhar province. The suspect was caught attempting to transport crystal methamphetamine and heroin‑making chemicals to Taluqan, the provincial capital, where he reportedly planned to sell the materials. He has been taken into custody for further questioning.
Over recent years, Afghanistan has intensified counter‑narcotics efforts by targeting trafficking networks, clandestine laboratories and illegal markets. int/akl/vd
