Bus blaze in Andhra: 19 passengers saved their lives by breaking window, jumping out; 11 dead

A private tour bus caught fire in Andhra Pradesh after a collision with a motorcycle, killing 11 people and injuring several others. The blaze occurred early Friday morning on National Highway 44 near Ullindakonda in Kurnool district.
The bus, operated by Vemuri Kaveri Travels, was heading from Hyderabad to Bengaluru. It had 40 passengers on board when, at about 3:30 a.m., a two‑wheel bike slammed into the bus. The motorbike became stuck under the bus’s belly and is believed to have sparked a fire that engulfed the vehicle in minutes.
Most of the passengers were asleep when the accident happened. Eightteen people broke the emergency windows and jumped out of the Volvo bus that was heavily damaged. Twenty‑one passengers were rescued, but 11 were declared dead. Four of the deceased were members of the same family. The victims have been identified as Golla Ramesh (35), Anusha (30), Manivata (10) and Manisha (12).
Emergency services reached the scene quickly, but they found the bus completely gutted by the fire. Eleven injured passengers were taken to a government hospital, and three others went to private hospitals for treatment. Police said the death toll could rise as missing passengers were feared dead.
The tragedy highlights the risks of nighttime bus travel on India’s highways and the importance of road safety measures for commercial vehicles.
