In Colombo, the vibrant Bambalapitiya Bohra Mosque buzzed with special prayers on Wednesday as the Dawoodi Bohra community came together to celebrate Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 75th birthday. Community members offered heartfelt wishes for his good health, long life, and ongoing success, highlighting the strong bond between PM Modi and the Bohras.
This iconic Husaini Masjid in Glenaber Place stands as the largest Dawoodi Bohra mosque in Sri Lanka. The congregation has long admired PM Modi’s deep connection with their community and his inspiring work for India’s progress. Over the years, PM Modi has shared warm stories about these ties during meetings in India and abroad.
“I always feel the love from my Bohra brothers and sisters, whether I’m traveling in the country or overseas—they make it a point to meet me,” PM Modi once said, showcasing the Bohra community’s affection for India and its leaders.
Just earlier this year in April, a group of Dawoodi Bohra leaders visited PM Modi at his Lok Kalyan Marg residence. The delegation included top business figures, doctors, educators, and other key community members. They thanked him for pushing the Waqf Amendment Act, which tackles wrongful claims on community properties. They shared personal struggles and how the new law brings much-needed relief.
PM Modi praised the Bohras’ dedication to social welfare, a tradition he’s witnessed firsthand. According to the Prime Minister’s Office, he credited community leader Syedna Mufaddal Saifuddin for providing crucial insights that shaped the Waqf Amendment Act right from the start.
Meanwhile, the Mahabodhi Society of Sri Lanka, known for its past tributes to PM Modi’s birthday, plans a special gathering of monks today to honor the occasion. These events reflect the global respect for PM Modi’s leadership and his inclusive approach toward diverse communities like the Dawoodi Bohras.
