Outrage is boiling over in Uttarakhand after a major scandal involving the Uttarakhand Subordinate Services Selection Commission (UKSSSC) exam. What started as a suspected paper leak in a graduate-level test has turned into full-blown protests across the state, with job seekers demanding answers and justice.
Rudraprayag MLA Bharat Chaudhary slammed the incident as outright cheating, not just a simple leak. In a chat with , he explained, “This wasn’t some accident—it was a pre-planned scheme that’s hurting our young people big time. Calling it a paper leak downplays how serious it is.” Chaudhary pointed out that over the last three to four years, around 25,000 youth landed government jobs through a fair and open process. He praised the state’s tough stance, saying leaders have rolled out zero-tolerance policies and strong anti-cheating laws to keep things clean.
Protests have erupted in key spots like Rudraprayag, Haridwar, and Dehradun. Frustrated aspirants want the exam canceled right away, along with a deep dive by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). Even the Congress party joined in, staging demonstrations to highlight what they call systemic breakdowns in the UKSSSC exam process.
Chaudhary added that authorities promise to crack down hard on anyone involved, no matter who they are. “Guilty parties will face the full force of the law to stop this from happening again,” he said.
Meanwhile, the focus isn’t all on the scandal. Chaudhary touched on the Kedarnath pilgrimage, noting bad weather caused some hiccups earlier, but crowds are picking up now. Officials expect a smooth, bustling season by October, drawing thousands of devotees.
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami stepped in Thursday, announcing a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to dig into the UKSSSC exam paper leak. He stressed that tough action awaits based on their findings. Dhami highlighted the state’s strict anti-cheating law, enacted in 2022-23, which has led to over 100 arrests of cheating gangs. “Thanks to this law, we’ve run exams without hitches and filled 25,000 jobs fairly,” he said at the Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay Excellence Awards. “But some folks are out to sabotage our youth’s future. If someone knew about a leak beforehand, they should’ve tipped off the police—not blasted it on social media to smear the whole system.”
Dhami made it clear: this looks more like a plot to damage the exam’s reputation than a real breach. “We’re forming the SIT, and we’ll nab every member of the cheating mafia,” he vowed.
In a quick update, Uttarakhand Police moved fast, arresting Khalid Malik—the main suspect in the UKSSSC cheating scandal—along with his sister. The investigation continues as the state works to restore trust in its job recruitment system.
