IndiGo Kolkata–Srinagar flight makes emergency landing in Varanasi after mid-air technical glitch

An IndiGo plane bound from Kolkata to Srinagar had to land early in Varanasi because it ran into a technical snag.

The aircraft, flight 6E‑6961, was carrying 166 passengers and crew when a problem was picked up in the middle of the flight. Flight crews promptly diverted the plane to Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport in Varanasi, where the 38‑minute emergency landing took place safely.

All passengers were checked out of the plane quickly and transferred onto a spare aircraft that will continue to Srinagar. IndiGo said the original jet is now grounded for a thorough inspection before it can fly again.

“Safety is our top priority,” the airline told reporters. “We’re arranging an alternate aircraft to keep our passengers on schedule and thank everyone for their patience.”

This isn’t the first IndiGo incident this month. Earlier, a flight headed to Delhi aborted take‑off at Lucknow after a technical issue was detected, and a separate flight from Kochi to Abu Dhabi also returned to the gate soon after departure. In all cases, the airline moved passengers to replacement planes and reported no injuries.

The Varanasi emergency landing underscores the airline’s commitment to passenger safety and its readiness to act quickly when technical problems arise.
