Jitan Ram Manjhi hails PM Modi’s vision, calls GST reform ‘historic’

Union Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi praises Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s development plans, calling recent decisions on MSMEs and GST “milestones” for India’s journey towards a developed nation by 2047. He emphasized that these steps show the government’s commitment to building a strong and inclusive economy.

In a statement to the media in Delhi, Manjhi highlighted Modi’s focus on empowering small entrepreneurs, farmers, and Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). He explained, “PM Modi’s clear vision is that supporting small businesses and MSMEs is key to India’s welfare. That’s why MSMEs now have a dedicated ministry separate from big industries.”

Manjhi shared impressive numbers, saying that since 2020, around 7 crore new MSME units have been registered. He added that if each unit gives employment to just five people, nearly 35 crore jobs have been created. MSMEs play a vital role in India’s economy, contributing 31% to the GDP, 35% to manufacturing, and 46% to exports. He also mentioned the Vishwakarma Yojana, a new scheme aimed at strengthening small industries.

On GST reforms, Manjhi called recent changes “historic.” The government has simplified GST into just two slabs—5% and 18%. Luxury items and alcohol now face a higher GST of 40% to discourage unnecessary consumption. Additionally, GST on health and insurance, which was 18%, has been reduced to zero, giving relief to citizens.

Manjhi also said these reforms will help India become more resilient in the global economy. “Some countries are trying to hurt India with tariffs,” he pointed out. “Our new GST rules will be a strong response to such trade barriers,” he added, referring to previous US tariffs on Indian goods.

Looking ahead, Manjhi highlighted India’s goal to become the third-largest economy in the world by 2030. He believes Prime Minister Modi’s motto — ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, Sabka Prayas’ — will guide India’s economic growth and development in the years to come.
