Tragic Shooting Incidents Rock Karachi Amid Rising Crime Concerns
In a heartbreaking turn of events, a young child lost his life in Karachi, Pakistan, after an accidental shooting on Wednesday, October 2. According to ARY News, the incident happened when a man in a car fired his gun, striking the child. Police quickly arrested the suspect, identified as Arif Shah, right after the shooting. Officers found no signs of robbery at the scene and noted that Shah had an accomplice with him in the vehicle. Investigations continue as authorities work to uncover more details about this senseless tragedy.
Just a day earlier, on Tuesday, October 1, another violent episode unfolded in Karachi when robbers gunned down a 25-year-old man named Sajjad Shaukat outside his home. DAWN reported, based on police accounts, that Shaukat stood with his two young children when two unidentified muggers pulled up on a motorcycle. CCTV footage shows Shaukat using his phone as the robbers demanded it. When he resisted, they shot him and sped away. Shaukat suffered severe wounds and rushed to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where he sadly passed away.
In response, West Zone Deputy Inspector General Irfan Ali Baloch ordered the suspension of the local station house officer for not controlling the surge in street crimes in the area. These robbery attacks highlight growing worries about gun violence and street safety in Karachi.
The wave of shootings didn’t stop there. On Monday, September 30, a police officer named Qaiser from Saudabad Police Station in Korangi district fell victim to an unknown assailant in Karachi’s Bhains Colony neighborhood. ARY News cited police reports saying the attacker targeted Qaiser near 10th Street Road during what appeared to be a robbery attempt. An eyewitness told officers that Qaiser fought back, but the gunman escaped with a 30-bore pistol. Citizens in the area expressed outrage over the bold daylight attack on law enforcement.
These back-to-back incidents in Karachi underscore the urgent need to tackle rising crime rates, including armed robberies and accidental shootings. Police remain on high alert as they probe each case for leads and justice.
