Women’s Cricket WC 2025 trophy tour ‘inspires’ cricketing dream in Mumbai

Mumbai buzzed with excitement as the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 Trophy Tour rolled through the city, celebrating women’s cricket and firing up the next generation of players. The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) organized a special event to engage students, where the gleaming trophy sparked joy and created lasting memories for everyone involved.

The tour made a stop at the MCA Sharad Pawar Indoor Cricket Academy and Recreation Centre. MCA President Ajinkya Naik, along with Apex Council members and both international and domestic women cricketers from Mumbai, greeted the trophy with enthusiasm. For many young hopefuls, getting up close to the World Cup silverware for the first time proved a huge motivator, pushing them to chase their dreams and follow in the footsteps of their idols.

To honor Mumbai’s trailblazing women cricketers, the MCA unveiled a special wall displaying photos of the city’s past women captains. Their achievements and dedication to the sport shone through, inspiring all who saw it. The event featured a lively panel discussion with former Indian stars Shobha Pandit, Sulakshana Naik, and Sangita Katware. They shared personal stories from their careers, offering advice and encouragement to budding female athletes.

Earlier in the tour, the trophy visited some of Mumbai’s most famous spots, like Churchgate Railway Station, Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus, the Gateway of India, Oval Maidan, Girgaon Chowpatty, and Powai Lake. At Girgaon Chowpatty, Mumbai’s women’s cricket team even paused their training session for a quick look at the prized trophy.

Hundreds of excited students at SVKM JV Parekh International School gave the trophy a warm welcome, joined by Principal Dr. G Swaminathan and Vice Principal Shoma Bhattacharya. Bollywood actress Saiyami Kher and Aparna Chablani, Senior Vice President for General Counsel & Governance at DP World for the Middle East, North Africa, and India Subcontinent, added star power to the occasion. To help young fans get started, organizers donated cricket kits to the school kids, giving them the gear to pursue their passion.

Looking ahead, Navi Mumbai’s DY Patil Stadium will host key action in the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025. Expect league matches like Sri Lanka vs. Bangladesh on October 20, India vs. New Zealand on October 23, and India vs. Bangladesh on October 26. The venue also lines up for the second semi-final on October 30. The grand final takes place on November 2, either at DY Patil or in Colombo.

Beyond Navi Mumbai, the tournament runs from September 30 to November 2 at other exciting venues: ACA Stadium in Guwahati, Holkar Stadium in Indore, ACA-VDCA Stadium in Visakhapatnam, and R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo, Sri Lanka. Fans can’t wait for the women’s cricket showdown to unfold.
